Let's be gloomy, my favorite goth is Robert Smith

Back in the 80s, Robert Smith inspired many young misfits to tease their hair, smudge their bright lipstick and buy Cure records. Now, although I imagine some hardcore fans are still caking on the eyeliner, his influence has trickled down, through the Cure-inspired bands like Interpol and all those emo bands (you know who they are). In 1992, NME wrote that the Cure were "a goth hit machine (19 to date), an international phenomenon and, yep, the most successful alternative band that ever shuffled disconsolately about the earth", a quite good way to sum up the band in a sentence.

You know, the Internets made us more aware of what people think about us.

Aw man, none of those bands can really remake the magic that The Cure produced.
